Lorna was appointed to the Board in May 2023, bringing with her experience as a Board Trustee and former Chair with Voluntary Health Scotland. She draws upon this background to promote effective governance and exemplary working practices within the Board.
A former Cub Scout Leader and District Commissioner in the Scottish Borders, Lorna left Scouting after her children grew up but remains committed to supporting youth development. Though not directly working with young people now, she believes her role on the Board helps Beyond Earlston offer and maintain programmes that build skills, spark interests, and encourage young people to reach their potential.
Drawing on her experience within the NHS and in academic roles both at home and abroad, she aims to bring a collaborative and effective approach to serving the interests of young people involved with Beyond Earlston.

I joined the Board of Trustees at Beyond Earlston in July 2025 after seeing how much the group has done for my daughter, who has been a member since August 2024. I wanted to give something back and show my appreciation for the excellent support and opportunities the group provides to young people within the Earlston High School catchment area.
I am excited to be part of the Board and to help support Beyond Earlston as it continues to grow and make a difference in the community. When I don't have my Beyond Earlston hat on I work for the Scottish Government and in my spare time I enjoy walking the family dog and going to the gym when I can

I have been manager of Beyond Earlston since 2012. This job is one of the most rewarding and varied posts I have had which involves discussing budgets and funding in the morning, meeting the team in the afternoon then a couple of meetings to helping out in one of the groups at night. I have a great staff team, who engage well with all the young people and parents listening to their ideas and making them reality where we can. And a very supportive board who as you can see bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to help make my job easier
I always make sure I take all my holidays each year to travel and I enjoy crafting and spending time with family
